In March 2015, the 3rd UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction will be held in Sendai, Japan.
In preparation for this conference, JCC2015 formed partnerships with GNDR , ADRRN, and Huairou Commission, which are civil society organizations working in Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR).
Through these partnerships, we are able to work together to enhance civil society organizations’ participation in the establishment and implementation of the post-2015 framework on DRR.
ADRRN, along with UNISDR Regional Office for Asia-Pacific, launched the “Road to Sendai” campaign in order to elevate and include the voices of communities and civil society in the global conversation on DRR.
Incorporating these experiences, lessons learnt and opinions into the post-2015 framework on DRR is crucial to ensuring a truly inclusive and participatory process, as global governments pledge their commitments to reducing disaster risk in the coming decades.
JCC2015 supports this campaign because we believe it is crucial that the voices of the Japanese people, along with the experiences of the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami, are shared with policy-makers and DRR stakeholders from around the world.
Road to Sendai
Unlike other global frameworks (e.g. MDGs), awareness on the disaster risk reduction framework (HFA) has been limited, especially at the sub national and local level. In the run-up to HFA 2, this needs to be put in the right light.
The campaign bridges the gap between civil society and world leaders; getting communities to emphasise what they want to see in the new framework.
It looks at the success stories of HFA 1 with messages of what worked best in preventing, reducing and bouncing back stronger from disasters.
It also attempts to de-mystify and widely circulate the concepts in HFA 2 to improve understanding primarily among the development sector, as well as the broader public.
Post your opinion to the global framework on DRR, what you want the world leaders to know about or your declaration for DRR to Twitter, Facebook or fill out the following Form. If possible, upload a photo with you and your message!
JCC2015 responsibly deliver your message to the world leaders!
※Your message will be posted to our campaign Facebook page(English messages wil be translated into Japanese.) We appreciate your undestanding.
